The attorneys at Montgomery & Ponder, LLC are investigating hernia mesh claims for clients across the country. The manufacturers of hernia mesh include Ethicon – Johnson & Johnson, Covidien – Medtronic, Atrium – C-Qur, and Davol – C.R. Bard. We will be discussing Atrium – C-Qur today.
Atrium – C-Qur™
In 2013, Atrium issued a recall on the C-Qur mesh used in thousands of hernia repair surguries. Atrium is the only company that sells hernia mesh coated in fish oil gel (Omega-3). The coating is intended to be an anti-inflammatory anti-adhesion barrier, but some patients have developed severe complications. One of these complications is major infection. On December 8, 2016, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation established a Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2753) for all claims involving people who suffered complications arising from the Atrium C-QUR Hernia mesh. The cases will be centralized in a New Hampshire U.S. District Court under Judge Landya B. McCafferty.
Studies have shown higher rates of hernias reoccurring and the need for additional surgery to remove the defective mesh and revise the initial surgery. The product is intended to repair hernias, but many people have experienced major health problems.
As a result of the following side effects, surgery is often necessary to remove the mesh:
- Bowel obstructions
- Seromas (fluid buildup under the skin)
- Mesh failures, including mesh migration or hernia recurrence
- Need for removal surgery/surgeries
If you or a loved one is suffering from the following side effects after a hernia repair, please contact Montgomery & Ponder, LLC at (205) 377-5004.
